1. Apply the medication as directed for the full treatment course, if tolerated. Apply the medication sparingly, more does not work better.
2. Redness, swelling, crusting, bleeding, itching, discomfort and pain are all normal reactions. This medication creates inflammation and these reactions are expected. This may occur in areas adjacent to the treatment area as well.
3. One may use Aquaphor Healing ointment, 100% petrolatum or Vaniply Ointment to keep the areas moist and to alleviate discomfort. They may also be used during the healing process. Do not use topical antibiotics such as Neosporin or Polysporin.
4. To further alleviate the discomfort, apply cold compresses or keep ointments cool in the refrigerator to prior to application.
5. One may continue to use cosmetics if they do not increase irritation.
6. If one needs an oral medication to alleviate discomfort, oral antihistamines may be used (Zyrtec, Claritin, Benadryl) unless contraindicated.
