Mark Gaughan, MD, FAAD
Dr. Mark Gaughan was trained in Dermatology at the University of New Mexico School of Medicine under Dr. R. Steven Padilla and Dr. E. Ben Smith. He is trained in general dermatology, dermatologic surgery and laser surgery. Dr. Gaughan joined his father in practice at Durango Dermatology in 2001. Special interests include treatment of skin cancer, laser surgery, Mohs surgery and treatment of aging skin. Prior to medical school, Dr. Gaughan was a helicopter pilot in the Army flying UH-60 Blackhawk helicopters at Ft. Bragg, NC. He also served in Operation Desert Storm as a medical evacuation pilot and later served as the flight surgeon for the New Mexico Army National Guard.
Dr. Mark Gaughan is a fellow in the American Academy of Dermatology, the American Society of Mohs Surgery, American Society of Dermatologic Surgery and American Society of Laser Medicine and Surgery. Additionally he is a member of the American Medical Society, Colorado Medical Society, Colorado Dermatology Society and the New Mexico Dermatology Society.
Raised in Durango, Colorado Mark enjoys the many activities and resources Durango offers including golf, aviation and skiing.
Lawrence Gaughan, MD, FAAD
Following graduation from the University of Kansas School of Medicine, Dr. Lawrence J. Gaughan had a mixed internship at St. Mary's Hospital in Kansas City, Missouri. He then served as a Captain in the Army stationed at Fort Leavenworth, Kansas. After being discharged, Dr. Gaughan completed one year of radiology at St. Luke's Hospital in Kansas City, Missouri, then went to Galveston Island to finish his schooling in dermatology at the University of Texas Medical Branch. After he completed his residency at the University of Texas, Dr. Gaughan moved to Durango, Colorado in 1970 to start up a private practice. Dr. Gaughan has extensive training and experience in general dermatology, skin cancer surgery, laser surgery and Mohs surgery.
Dr. Lawrence Gaughan is a fellow in the American Academy of Dermatology, the American Society of Mohs Surgery, American Society of Dermatologic Surgery and American Society of Laser Medicine and Surgery. Additionally he is a member of the American Medical Society, Colorado Medical Society, Colorado Dermatology Society and the New Mexico Dermatology Society.
Heather Wickless, MD, MPH
Dr. Heather W. Wickless is board-certified in Dermatology. Her areas of interest include medical and cosmetic dermatology, as well as preventive skin health.
Heather earned a Bachelor of Fine Arts Degree in Studio Art from Texas Tech University, and completed her Master of Public Health at the University of Texas Health Science Center at Houston. She received her Doctorate of Medicine from the University of Texas Health Science Center at San Antonio, where she also completed an internship in internal medicine and her residency training in dermatology.
Prior to joining Durango Dermatology in 2010, Heather was an Assistant Professor and Director of Medical Student education at Northwestern University Department of Dermatology, where she still serves as an Adjunct Professor.
Scott Wickless, DO
Scott received his undergraduate degree from the University of Michigan-Ann Arbor, and subsequently received his medical degree from A.T. Still University Kirksville College of Osteopathic Medicine. Dr. Wickless completed his internship at Henry Ford Hospital and his Dermatology residency at Michigan State University. Dr. Wickless then completed fellowship training in Dermatopathology and Cutaneous Oncology at Northwestern University Feinberg School of Medicine.
Dr. Scott C. Wickless is board-certified in both Dermatology and Dermatopathology. He specializes in medical dermatology, skin cancer, and interpretation of skin biopsies. His dual-certification allows better integration of clinical information with microscopic observations for the treating physician. He is a member of the American Society of Dermatopathology, International Society of Dermatopathology, American Osteopathic College of Dermatology and the American Academy of Dermatology. He currently serves on the peer-review team for The Lancet, Archives of Dermatology and the Archives of Dermatology.
Prior to joining Durango Dermatology, Scott served as clinical faculty at both Northwestern University and Loyola University in Chicago, IL, where he also functioned as Director of the Dermatopathology Unit at the Edward Hines, Jr. VA Hospital. Dr. Wickless has authored multiple abstracts, textbooks and peer-reviewed journal articles, including the New England Journal of Medicine, Journal of the American Academy of Dermatology, the Journal of Cutaneous Pathology and Archives of Dermatology.
Kristin Pogue, MPAS, PA-C
Kristin Pogue is a board certified physician assistant. She recieved her undergraduate degree in biomedical science from Texas A&M University. She joined the practice in 2006 after completing her Master's in Physician Assistant Studies at University of Texas Medical Branch. During her training she began to focus on dermatology by completing rotations and reasearch in the Dermatology Department at UTMB and performing additional clinical work at other university and private dermatology practices. Kristin's special interests are skin cancer prevention and education.
Kristin Pogue is a diplomate in the Society of Dermatology Physician Assistants, a member of the American Academy of Physician Assistants and the New Mexico Dermatology Society.
Since moving to Durango, Kristin has avidly pursued her passion for the outdoors with mountain biking, trail running, nordic skiing and gardening.
